“West Philadelphia, born and raised…” Will Smith made this neighborhood famous in the opening lines of Fresh Prince of Bel Air. West Philly has great bars, access to a few of the best schools Philly has to offer, and affordable housing. This neighborhood is home to Drexel, UPenn, and the transit hub 30th St Station. It’s convenient to get to Center City, but some nights you might not even want to cross that river! (It’s pronounced “School-Kull”). West Philly is constantly changing, adding new bars, restaurants, houses, apartment buildings, PARKING LOTS! All with easy access to the western burbs and Center City.
Twin homes (2 or 3 story) are the most common residence here, and parking is a breeze. According to Zillow, the 2020 median home price in West Philly is $450,000 (compared to Philly-wide average of $188,000). If that is outside your price range, consider Manayunk, Germantown, or Mount Airy, which will give you a similar residential feel but at a lower price point.
